| Mediation Strategy
Pre-Mediation Mode
Sometimes people are not able to resolve their difficulties. When this happens, it is vital to discern that both parties involved have done all they possibly can to resolve their problem in person and in private. If this is true, and they have not been able to resolve their difficulty, mediation may be necessary. As a result, contact in one form or another may be made with Conflict Resources International. Once an assessment is made regarding previous efforts, an agreement is worked out between the parties and CRI.
A written agreement must be signed by both parties involved. This form is located on the website. Once the mediation form is received the mediation process begins.
Mediation Mode
The mediation mode followed by CRI is outlined by the Institute of Christian Conciliation. This is further explained in Guiding People Through Conflict, by Ken Sande and Ted Kober. Sande and Kober outline the following mediation procedure used when the actual mediation meeting between parties takes place.
Greetings and ground rules
Opening Statements
Story-telling
Problem clarification
Exploring solutions
Leading to agreement
Post-Mediation Mode
Follow-up is crucial to sustain movement toward reconciliation. A formal follow-up meeting should occur to check-up on parties involved sometime following the mediation meeting. Phone calls to the parties involved are also necessary to ensure compliance with decisions made in agreement.
