Frequently Asked Questions

I feel threatened when I experience conflict. What can I do about this?
Answer: Remember that conflict occurs any time your issues or concerns clash with others around you. This is a reality of life. Conflict can never be avoided entirely. Learn to turn this into a learning opportunity and try to maintain a calm environment.

What is the most effective way to handle conflict?
Answer: Actually, there are as many ways to handle conflict as there are types of conflict. When you learn about the five major modes of handling conflict, you are in a better position to adapt to the challenges you face.

How can I improve my ability to handle conflict?
Answer: You improve your ability through a better understanding of your own conflict handling style. Adapting to people around you also helps.

Can anything help me understand why I have trouble handling conflict?
Answer: The Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument is an excellent tool in this regard. Conflict Resources International uses this tool to help people understand and improve their conflict handling abilities.

This sounds so secular. Is there any Biblical basis to this conflict study?
Answer: I am glad you asked. There are many examples in the Bible of conflict handling styles. In fact, as your understanding of conflict-handling style improves, conflict situations in the Bible are better understood.

Will improving my conflict handling style help my relationships at home?
Answer: It most certainly will. We all respond to conflict out of habit. Some of us try to avoid it altogether. Others are by nature too confrontational. Learning to adjust your style to conflict situations makes for a healthier home environment.
